Built by the O’Flahertys in 1500, Aughnanure Castle is located near the shores of Lough Corrib.
This castle is well-preserved and stands on a rocky island. Besides a watch tower, other notable features of the castle include a banqueting hall, a dry harbour, and double-bawn bastions.
